This year's hackathon topic is: Real-time Object Detection & Recognition via Contour Outlining using Computer Vision
What is a hackathon?
A hackathon is an exciting coding challenge, where you team up and compete for several prizes. Your task is to develop an interesting idea for a real-world application, and program a prototype for it. Apply your programming skills, dive into the world of object tracking and show what you have learned!
Important dates:
15. July, 6 pm: Online introduction to the hackathon challenge & answer questions (Q&A session)
July - August: Self-learning Phase
2. - 23. September: Competition Phase
Members of the teams who pass the Self-learning and Competition phases will be invited to the JESICS Autumn School at King Salman International University (KSIU) in Sharm El-Sheikh (travel & accommodation are reimbursed!) Present your projects live and get valuable feedback by our international jury! Date: 3.-6. October

Why join? You might want to join for one or more of the following reasons:
- To invest in yourself, your time, your know-how, and your colleagues' skills via self-learning, group teaching, and team-working.
- To get to know many talented colleagues and experts of your near or far future who share similar interests.
- To receive a certificate of participation and a surprise gift with our project logo printed on it.
- To receive future support and sponsorship of your presented prototype project until its completion.
- To get in contact with national and international experts.
- To win a prize, as best-winning teams (who present, at least, a working prototype) receive monetary prizes (each prize is for the whole team [not for an individual]. Prize rates are best approximations in EGP; the actual amounts depend on the exchange rate): 1st-rank: one prize (~10,000 LE), 2nd-rank: two prizes (~5,000 LE each), and 3rd-rank: four prizes (~2,000 LE each).
